We recognize the value that our public lands hold to the citizens and visitors of Luna County. The proposed Mimbres Peaks National Monument has been heavily opposed by the citizens of our county and the City of Deming, NM.
Luna County, the City of Deming and the Deming Soil and Water Conservation District have all passed resolutions opposing the proposed Mimbres Peaks National Monument. |
As the leading agricultural organization in Luna County, Luna County Farm and Livestock Bureau strongly opposes any such designation, especially when key stakeholders have not been invited to the table.
Even with the citizens of Luna County opposing the proposal, outsiders are still trying to designate more the 245,000 acres of our lands in the Florida Mountains, Tres Hermanas, Good Sight Mountains, and Cookes Range. |
1.
Only one local group and several environmental and wildlife groups from the Las Cruces and Albuquerque areas have developed the proposal to form a national monument here in Luna County. |
2.
The proposal includes four prominent mountain ranges: Floridas, Tres Hermanas, Cookes Range, and Good Sight Mountains. |
3.
Total land to be redesignated is more than 245,000 acres or approximately 383 square miles. |
Not Invited to the TableAs the leading agricultural organization in Luna County, Luna County Farm and Livestock Bureau, along with Luna County, the City of Deming, the Deming Soil and Water Conservation District, and countless local citizens, we strongly oppose any such designation, especially when key stakeholders have not been invited to the table.
Please join us in our commitment to conserving the environment we love, while also supporting the people in Luna County who call it home.
