About the Effort to Stop the Monument

No Mimbres Monument started as a grassroots movement after the proposal for a national monument in Luna County was privately announced December 6, 2023.  In the wake of this announcement, local citizens, ranchers, farmers, miners, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts began pushing back against this designation. 

​We recognize that our community not only depends on our public lands for livelihoods, but also the generational ties that so many of our families have to these lands.  That’s why it is crucial that we oppose this proposal and any similar designation. 

​We must conserve the land and protect those people who sustain it.
